Perhaps the biggest and most blatant difference between King sheets and California King sheets is the dimension; King sheets are made for shorter and wider beds while California King sheets are made for longer and narrower beds. To be more specific, a King size bed measures 76 x 80 inches (width x length) while a California King bed measures 72 x 84 inches (width x length). As you can see, the California King is a few inches narrower but it is noticeable longer. In terms of surface area, the California King has less surface area than a King bed. A standard King bed has a surface area of 6,080 square inches while a California King bed has a surface area of 6,048 inches.
